Be kind to yourself. Recipes to fuel your mind, body, spirit.
Welcome to my website where you will find my favorite recipes using natural ingredients that will nourish you inside and out. I’m a holistic nutritionist and I love to cook for my beautiful family. Actually experimenting in the kitchen is how I like to unwind. I love food and I love finding creative and cost-effective ways to feed my family healthy food that also tastes great!
In my recipes you will find:
- unrefined, unprocessed (or minimally processed) whole food
- variety of whole grains (outside of conventional wheat)
- legumes – lots and lots of legumes!
- an array of vegetables and fruits
- wild fish, eggs
- fermented foods
- healthy fat (nuts, seeds, olives, olive oil, avocado oil etc.)
- natural sweeteners such as honey, maple syrup, sucanat (in moderation!)
- uncomplicated procedures – we don’t have hours on end to spend in the kitchen, so my meals are quick and uncomplicated
I started to become conscious of our food when I became pregnant with my first child 10 years ago. Since then I’ve been experimenting with our diets and have in the process “healed” myself from various ailments that I thought were “my normal”. For instance I corrected my dysglycemia (undiagnosed) which resulted in a daily afternoon sugar crash which left me “fuzzy brained” and with difficulties concentrating. Chronic PMS and fatigue, I used to fall asleep with my kids at 8:00PM – now I have energy like I’ve never had before. I suffered for years from seasonal allergies (since my pre-teen years) and although I still have some reactions during certain periods of the summer season, my reactions have significantly improved. I never thought my health would improve with age but I feel better today than I felt in my 20’s! I am learning firsthand that our bodies are resilient and will respond very well to nourishing, whole foods. My kids have also enjoyed the benefits of “real food”. Kids are resilient and as I changed our diet they both recovered from their asthma symptoms. Both of my children were on asthma puffers since early childhood especially during a cold or flu and almost immediately after changing their diets they were able to come off their puffers with their Dr’s approval.
My journey of healing and learning about natural whole food and its benefits led me to make a significant change in my career. As I learned about whole food and incorporated more and more “real” food into our diet and as we began to reap the benefits of these changes I began to sense that I wanted to make a change. So in March 2009 with the support of my amazing hubby I decided to leave the corporate world and pursue a career in nutrition.
I hope you enjoy my recipes as much as we do.
